Morris County Prosecutor’s Office reminding residents to lock car doors, take keys

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – The Morris County County Prosecutor’s Office is reminding residents to always lock their vehicles, even if parked in the driveway, and never leave your key fobs in your vehicle, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office has been monitoring a recent trend in involving unlocked vehicles, most recently in Randolph Township, Mendham and Morris Plains, Knapp said.

The vehicles were either stolen or burglarized during the overnight hours and most concerning is the fact that some of these incidents resulted in pursuits involving law enforcement, Knapp said.

“Please be sure to lock your vehicles even when parked in your driveway or garage.  Also, be sure to remove any valuables from your vehicle,” Knapp said.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to their local police department, Knapp said.

“Together, law enforcement and residents can prevent these crimes from occurring,” Knapp said.
