New Jersey has the second lowest percentage of court cases being thrown out, study shows
NEW JERSEY – Research has revealed the states where you’re least likely to have a court case thrown out, with New Hampshire coming out on top.
The study by legal funding experts Tribeca Lawsuit Loans studied U.S. District Court data to see which states had the lowest percentage of court cases terminated between March 2022 and March 2023.
It found that New Hampshire is the state where you’re least likely to have a court case thrown out. In total in the 12 months ending March 31st, 2023, there were 5,042 U.S. and Private cases in the state, of which 425, or 8.43%, were terminated, the lowest percentage of any state in the US.
New Jersey takes second place on the list, with a total of 80,683 cases between March 2022 and March 2023. Of this total, it was found that 9,554, or 11.84%, were terminated.
The midwestern state of Ohio takes third on the list, with a total of 40,329 cases between March 2022 and March 2023. Of this total, 5,185 were terminated, equivalent to 12.86%.
South Carolina takes fourth place on the list, with the southeastern state seeing a total of 15,425 court cases between March 2022 and March 2023. Of these 15,425 cases, 3,252 were terminated, which is a percentage of 21.08%.
Rounding out the top five is the state of Minnesota. The state saw 14,019 cases between March 2022 and March 2023, with 23.05%, or 3,232, being terminated.
The top three states where you’re most likely to have a court case thrown out or terminated are Georgia, Texas, and Kansas. 41.43% of cases were terminated in Georgia, 38.94% in Texas, and 38.16% in Kansas.

“What people may not know is how many reasons there can be for a court case to be terminated in the US. Whether it be a settlement, voluntary dismissal, loss of evidence, or even the death of one of the parties involved, it’s interesting to see where terminations have been more frequent, particularly because there’s no clear pattern in the geographical results,” said CEO of Tribeca Lawsuit Loans Rory Donadio.
