
Newton man reportedly found sleeping in vehicle faces DWI, drug charges
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Newton man reportedly found sleeping in a vehicle is facing driving while intoxicated and drug charges in Byram Township.
On Jan. 26, township police responded to ShopRite for a man possibly sleeping in his vehicle . It was reported that the man did not wake up when a citizen knocked on his window, police said.
When officers arrived, they spoke to the driver, who was identified as Tyler J. Lister of Newton, who appeared to be intoxicated. Due to Lister’s state of intoxication, field sobriety tests were not conducted, and was arrested, police said.
A search of his vehicle produced a quantity of suspected methamphetamine. Lister was transported to the Netcong NJSP barracks where he gave breath samples and was examined by a NJSP Drug Recognition Expert, police said.
Lister was charged with third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and reckless driving. He was then lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility.
