Newton teen killed, 3 others injured in single-car crash in Sussex County

FREDON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A teenage girl from Newton was killed and three other teens were injured when their car overturned on Saturday in Fredon Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sgt. Lawrence Peele.

The crash happened at 5:37 p.m. on County Route 611 near mile marker 5.4, Peele said.

According to Peele, Anthony Burke, 17, of Newton was travelling north on County Route 611 in a Mercedes-Benz when the vehicle went off the street and overturned, Peele said.

Alexis Faye, 17, of Newton, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, Peele said.

Burke and Maria Fiore, 16, of Andover, a passenger in the vehicle, were both flown to Morristown Medical Center in “serious Condition,” Peele said.

Nicholas Chavarria, 17, of Newton, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Peele said.
