
NJ State Police arrest 2, seize $315 worth of drugs during traffic stop
PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, NJ (Morris County) – New Jersey State Police have arrested two Morris County men and seized $315 worth of heroin and Xanax pills during a traffic stop Friday afternoon.
Carl Welch, 39, of Kenvil was charged with possession of heroin, possesion of presciption legend drugs, possession of hypodermic needles, criminal under the influence, and DWI.
Michael Zelaya, 30, of Dover was charged with possession of heroin, possession of hypodermic needles and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Friday, Jan. 24, at 2:39 p.m., a state trooper stopped Welch for a traffic violation on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 46 in Parsippany-Troy Hills, state police said.
During the traffic stop, the trooper determined Welch was under the influence and arrested him for DWI. After further investigation, troopers discovered Welch and his passenger Zelaya were in possession of heroin, Xanax pills, hypodermic needles, and drug paraphernalia, state police said.
Welch and Zelaya had active warrants for their arrest and were lodged at Morris County Jail pending a detention hearing.
