NJ Transit salutes veterans with complimentary rides
All Active and Retired Military Personnel with ID Invited to Ride the System as Guests on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11
NEW JERSEY– In recognition of all those who have served in the Armed Forces, and are currently serving, NJ TRANSIT is inviting all active and retired military personnel to ride as complimentary guests of honor on Rail, Bus or Light Rail services on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11.
Whether going to the country’s largest Veterans Day parade in New York City, heading to ceremonies around New Jersey or simply commuting to work or school, veterans and active members (in or out of uniform) can utilize any portion of the bus, rail and light rail network all day on Saturday, November 11th, by simply showing any of the following valid IDs:
- A military ID card (Active or Retired)
- A Veterans Administration Identification
- A membership card for any Veterans Organization (American Legion, VFW, etc.)
- Any customer wearing a U.S. military uniform
Throughout the rest of the year, military personnel and their dependents may use the one-way reduced ticket upon presenting their valid military or military-dependent ID cards.
Eligible military personnel include Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard, and those with official “Retired” status from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard.
Veterans with service-connected disabilities may present a valid Veterans Affairs (VA) identification card which indicates “service connected” to use the one-way reduced ticket option.
When purchasing a ticket from a ticket vending machine or through the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App, simply select Senior/Disabled to obtain the discounted fare. Tickets may also be purchased at ticket offices at stations.
