NY man accused of stealing $53K worth of jewelry from Mendham Borough home

MENDHAM BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A New York man has been charged this week in connection with a 2019 jewelry theft in Mendham Borough.

Robert K. Antonucci, 39, of Staten Island was charged on Jan. 29 with third-degree theft.

On Nov. 6, police received information regarding the theft of women’s jewelry from inside of a home in the area of Cherry Lane, police said.

The stolen jewelry was valued at $53,000.00 and consisted of a diamond engagement ring, a diamond bracelet, and a diamond pendant necklace, police said.

Through a police investigation it was revealed that Antonucci was employed at the residence as a moving contractor at the time of the theft on Oct. 30. A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of Antonucci being found in possession of some of the stolen items, police said.

Antonucci allegedly stole the items from a jewelry box inside of a bedroom when he was left there unattended, police said.

Antonucci was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility.

Assisting with the investigation was the New York City Police Department’s 122nd Precinct Detective Squad and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Instigation Unit.
