Officials tour Warren County by helicopter to get bird’s-eye view of some issues they are working to solve

WARREN COUNTY, NJ – Warren County officials toured the county by helicopter with the NJ State Police Office of Emergency Management last week to get a bird’s-eye view of some of the issues they are working to solve.

The tour looked at flood hazard mitigation efforts, truck traffic flow, and construction underway at the county landfill to build a new cell, Commissioner Director Jason J. Sarnoski said.

The 30-minute helicopter tour included Sarnoski, Commissioner James R. Kern III, county Administrator Alex Lazorisak, and Public Safety Director Frank Wheatley. The flight was a State Police operation requested on behalf of the Warren County Office of Emergency Management, and was conducted at no charge to the county.

“Seeing Warren County from the air reminds me how beautiful our county is,” Sarnoski said. “This operational exercise helped us get a better understanding of our capital programs, our needs, and how projects are benefitting the residents of Warren County.”

“Being able to observe Warren County from above provided us with new perspective,” Kern explained. “Aside from infrastructure and project observations, we also were able to discuss the county’s hazard mitigation plan, he said.

“Flooding continues to be a major hazard for Warren County. With our state and local partners, we have plans in place to keep our critical sites operational and residents safe,” Kern said.

The air tour started and ended at the county Public Safety Building in Franklin Township, headed west to the Delaware River, the headed upriver to the I-80 Exit 4 interchange at Columbia and east to Exit 10 at Hope to view truck traffic on Routes 80, 46, 521 and 519.

The flyover continued past the county landfill in White Township before returning to the Public Safety Building.
