Oh baby! Watch NJ state troopers help deliver baby on the side of I-287

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – Three state troopers helped a woman safely give birth on the side of the highway, and the delivery is caught on body-worn camera.

On Sunday, May 21, Troopers Michael Morreale, Ryan Van Arsdale and Anthony Makhnin responded to a medical assist for a passenger in labor, state police said.

Immediately upon arrival, it was evident the birth would occur on the side of Interstate 287 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County, state police said.

Trooper Morreale took control and received the baby upon delivery. Due to the awkward position of the mother, the umbilical cord became wrapped around the baby, state police said.

Troopers Morreale and Van Arsdale re-positioned the mom and baby. EMS arrived and mom and baby were taken to the hospital, state police said.

After a follow up with the hospital, mom and baby Jack are doing great. Jack and mom are healthy and appreciative of the outstanding job by the troopers, state police said.

“Welcome to the World, Baby Jack! And thank you Troopers for the awesome job well done!,” state police said.
