One dead in Hunterdon County fire

TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – One person is dead following a fire in an apartment in Tewksbury Township Sunday morning.

On Aug. 16, at 6:22 a.m., first responders were dispatched to a fire alarm on Fisher Road. The first arriving units found a fire contained to one apartment, Tewksbury Police Chief Tim Barlow said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire resulted in one fatality. The identity of the victim will be made through further investigation by the medical examiner’s office, Barlow said.

The fire remains under investigation by the Tewksbury Township Police Department, Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, NJ State Division of Fire Safety, and the Hunterdon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Barlow said.

Fire companies from Oldwick, Fairmount, Pottersville, Lebanon Boro, East Whitehouse and the Whitehouse Rescue squad responded to the scene.

“The Tewksbury Township Police wish to express our condolences to the victim’s family and friends,” Barlow said.
