One injured, one charged with DWI following 3-vehicle crash in Warren County
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Sussex County man is facing DWI charges following a three-vehicle crash in Hackettstown on Thursday night, police said.
On March 23, at around 7:47 p.m., police responded to Mountain Ave near East Ave for a reported head-on motor vehicle crash, police said.
Through an investigation it was determined that Derek J. Potter, 33, of Sparta Township was travelling south on Mountain Ave in a 2019 Ford pickup truck when he struck the rear of a 2001 Honda that was stopped and waiting to turn left into Riverside Garden Apartments, police said.
The momentum from the collision sent the Honda across both northbound lanes of travel, over a curb, sidewalk, and crashing into a Verizon utility box, police said.
The Ford then entered into the northbound inner lane of travel and collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota, police said.
The driver of the Honda suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center by Hackettstown Rescue Squad, police said.
Through a police investigation it was determined that Potter was allegedly operating his vehicle under the influence, police said.
Potter was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, and failure to wear seatbelt. He was released pending a court appearance, police said.
