Overnight lane closures begin for Route 22 resurfacing in Warren County

WARREN COUNTY, N.J. — Overnight lane closures on Route 22 eastbound are scheduled this week as the New Jersey Department of Transportation begins a resurfacing and intersection improvement project across four municipalities in Warren County: Phillipsburg, Lopatcong, Pohatcong, and Greenwich.

Beginning Monday night, July 14, through Thursday night, July 17, two lanes will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. between Miller Street in Phillipsburg and 5th Street in Lopatcong. At least one eastbound lane will remain open during the overnight hours.

The closures will also affect ramps to Ingersoll Avenue/Bates Street, Roseberry Street, and 1st Avenue in Phillipsburg. Only one ramp will be closed at a time, with signed detours provided for motorists.

When paving is completed, U-turns near Firth Street and Lincoln Street will be permanently closed to public traffic and maintained for emergency vehicles only.

The work is part of a $10 million resurfacing and improvement project that covers approximately five miles of Route 22 eastbound from Miller Street to the I-78 Interchange.

In addition to roadway resurfacing, the project includes upgrades to traffic signals at the following intersections:

  • Route 22 and New Brunswick Avenue
  • Route 22 and Greenwich Street
  • Route 22 and St. James Avenue/Uniontown Road/CR 519
  • Route 22 and Phillipsburg Mall
  • Route 22 and 1st Street
  • Route 22 and Roseberry Street
  • Route 22 and Ingersoll Avenue/Bates Street

Portable variable message signs will provide advance notice of traffic pattern changes. All work is weather dependent and subject to change. Motorists are encouraged to check 511nj.org for real-time travel updates.
