Pedestrian struck, killed on I-287 in Somerset County, state police say

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A 38-year-old Morris County man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 287 in Bridgewater Township on Thursday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry.

The crash occurred at 2:29 a.m. on Interstate 287 southbound at milepost 16 in Bridgewater Township, Curry said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Volkswagon Tiguan was traveling south in the left lane of Interstate 287, and Alfred Hernandez of Morristown was walking in the area of the left lane ahead of the VW, Curry said.

The front of the VW then struck Hernandez causing fatal injuries, Curry said.

The driver remained on scene and was not injured, Curry said.

The crash remains under investigation, Curry said.
