Pedestrian struck, seriously hurt on I-80 in Morris County

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A 49-year-old Union County man was seriously injured Saturday night when he was struck by a pickup truck on Interstate 80 in Morris County, according to New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota.

The crash happened at around 9:48 p.m. on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 36.6 in Rockaway Township, Slota said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that Michael Gachko of Summit parked his vehicle on the shoulder of I-80 eastbound, entered the roadway crossing the eastbound lanes of travel on foot and when he entered the westbound lanes, he was struck by a Chevrolet pickup, Slota said.

Gachko suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Slota said.
