Police arrest 4 after chase ends in crash on I-280 in Morris County

MOUNTAIN LAKES BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – Four people were arrested after a police chase ended in a crash on I-280 in Morris County early Sunday morning, according to Mountain Lakes police.

On August 7, at around 3:30 a.m., an officer patrolling the area observed a suspicious vehicle near the border of Mountain Lakes and Boonton, police said.

Upon seeing the officer, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. The officers, along with Boonton police, located the vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen and initiated a pursuit, police said.

Boonton PD was able to utilize tire deflation devices successfully on the vehicle, significantly slowing the vehicle down, police said.

The pursuit continued onto I-287, I-80 and then I-280, when the vehicle crashed attempting to exit the highway, police said.

Mountain Lakes officers and Boonton officers were able to apprehend four suspects, whose names were not released, and take them into custody. Two of the arrestees sustained injuries during the crash and were treated at the hospital, police said.

After processing the area, a firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
