Police arrest second suspect in connection with shoplifting incident at Morris County CVS

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A second suspect has been arrested in connection to a shoplifting incident at the CVS Pharmacy in Denville Township.

On Sept. 17, at around 7:52 p.m., police responded to the CVS Pharmacy on a report of a shoplifting in progress. The complainant reported observing three men enter the store and proceed to conceal various items on their person, police said.

Prior to police arrival, two of the suspects exited the store and entered a white Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot. When officers arrived on scene, the white Jeep Wrangler fled the parking lot, leaving the third man behind in the store, police said.

Officers attempted to stop the fleeing Jeep Wrangler, but quickly terminated the pursuit due to the danger posed to the public as a result of the reckless actions of the fleeing driver, police said.

A subsequent police investigation identified the driver of the Jeep Wrangler as Elijah Cowan, 23, of Jamaica, NY, police said.

The third man, who was identified as Aziz James, 24, of Jamaica, NY, was subsequently located in the parking lot of the CVS, apparently looking for his ride, police said.

A police investigation revealed that James had in his possession approximately $280.00 in stolen over-the-counter medication, police said.

James was charged with shoplifting and released pending a court appearance, police said.

On Nov. 28, Elijah Cowan, 23, of Jamaica, NY was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit shoplifting and eluding. He was then lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance, police said.
