Police: Cyclist killed in Hunterdon County crash

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A 50-year-old Hunterdon County man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Hunterdon County on Wednesday, according to Raritan Township Police Lieutenant Scott Nelson

The crash occurred on Jan. 4, at around 6:34 p.m., in the area of New York Avenue and Route 31 in Raritan Township, Nelson said.

Felix Santiago Reyes-Olea was found lying unconscious on the northbound side of Route 31 and had a very weak pulse. He was transported to Robert Woods Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he died from his injuries, Nelson said.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Reyes-Olea remained on scene, Nelson said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that Reyes-Olea was riding his bicycle eastbound on New York Avenue when police said it appears that Reyes-Olea crossed the southbound lane of Route 31, and attempted to cross the northbound lane of travel when he was struck by a beige colored Ford Taurus which was traveling northbound.

The crash remains under inveisgation by the Raritan Township Police Department and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
