Police: Driver had blood alcohol level 3X legal limit in Lopatcong Twp. crash

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Lopatcong Township police say the driver in a crash on Route 57 Friday night had a blood alcohol content 3 times the legal limit.

The crash happened on Sept. 27 at around 5:54 p.m. at the intersection of Route 57 and Strykers Road, police said.

While officers were speaking to one of the drivers, who was identified as Patrick Gargone, 56, of Easton PA, the officers determined he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Gargone allegedly failed several field sobriety tests at the scene and was then taken into custody for driving while intoxicated. His blood alcohol content was found to be .24%, which is three times the legal limit in the State of New Jersey, police said.

Gargone was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He will also face charges from the New Jersey State Police for leaving the scene of another accident on Route 519, police said.

Gargone was released to a family member pending a court appearance.
