Police: Hunterdon County man flees from police, crashes, then flees on foot

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Hunterdon County man was arrested after he fled from police, crashed the vehicle and then fled on foot early Wednesday morning in Readington Township.

On Oct. 11, at around 1:28 a.m., police observed a vehicle on River Road near County Route 523 driving with its lights on and off and failing to maintain its lane, police said.

The driver later identified as Brian Bancroft of Flemington refused to stop for the officer. He crashed his vehicle and fled on foot before being taken into custody on Route 31 in Raritan Township, police said.

Bancroft was arrested and charged with eluding, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and issued motor vehicle summons for reckless driving, careless driving, failure to obey signs, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane, maintenance of lamps, abandoning vehicle on private property and improper turn.

Bancroft was then lodged in the Warren County Jail.
