UPDATE: Hopatcong Borough police find suspect in alleged child luring incident, say no longer a safety concern

UPDATE (1/28/23): Police located the suspect vehicle and its driver.

“We’re happy to announce there is no longer a safety concern. Like all the residents in this town, the safety of everyone’s children is our top priority,” police said.

“We truly want to thank all of the members of this community for helping us during our investigation of the incident that happened this morning. The camera footage and information provided to us was extremely vital and helpful,” police said.

No further information was released.

HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – Police are investigating a report that a man attempted to lure a juvenile into his car Friday morning.

The incident happened at around 8:03 a.m. on Broadway in Hopatcong Borough, police said

According to police, a white male, approximately 30-40-years-old, clean cut hair, and wearing a black jacket and driving possibly a 2010-2014 C300 Mercedes Benz attempted to lure a Juvenile into his vehicle, police said.

The suspect opened the vehicle door and told the juvenile to get into the vehicle. The juvenile backed away from the vehicle and a neighbor who witnessed the incident yelled at the driver, police said.

The vehicle then fled the area in an unknown direction, police said.

Police are also looking for the owner of the black BMW pictured behind the Mercedes (seen below). The owner of the black BMW may have information to assist in their investigation, police said.
