Police investigating after small dog found dead in Somerset County river

PEAPACK-GLADSTONE BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – The Peapack Gladstone Police Department is investigating after a small dog was found dead in the North Branch Raritan River.

The Peapack Gladstone Police Department, Far Hills Borough Police Department, Peapack Gladstone First Aid Squad, and Somerset County Park Rangers responded Friday to Natirar Park for a report of a dead dog in the river.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased small black male dog with a yellow tennis ball, police said.

Bernards Township Animal Control responded and took possession of the dog. He was scanned for a micro chip; however it was not chipped, police said.

Due to the dogs condition, the breed was not able to be identified, police said.
