Police: Mount Arlington driver hit trees and road signs; charged with DWI

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County woman suspected of drunk driving is facing several charges after she crashed into trees and several road signs in Mount Olive Township.

Andrea G. Vega, 29, of Mount Arlington was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane.

The crash happened on Jan. 3, at 3:55 a.m. on Route 206 in the area of the Overlook Apartment Complex. When the officer arrived, the officer located a 2019 Jeep off of the roadway on the northbound side of the highway, police said.

Police determined that the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway, striking trees and several road signs. While the officer spoke with the driver, who was identified as Vega, the officer allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and noted that she appeared to be impaired, police said.

Vega performed field sobriety testing and was subsequently placed under arrest. She was transported to police headquarters where she submitted to chemical breath testing.

Vega was charged and released to a sober driver pending a court hearing.
