Regional panning meeting set for southern Warren County municipalities

WARREN COUNTY, NJ – The six municipalities in Warren County’s southern end are to convene for the first regional planning meeting aimed at fostering greater inter-local cooperation on issues that affect the entire area.

“The purpose will be to discuss major issues facing the county’s southern region, find commonality, and find a path forward to resolve those issues,” said Warren County Board of County Commissioners Director James R. Kern III, who is convening the meeting for Alpha, Franklin, Greenwich, Lopatcong, Phillipsburg, and Pohatcong.

The online meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. using the Webex platform. While the meeting is for interaction with municipal and county officials, the public is invited to attend and comment.

“I look forward to full participation from all of the municipalities in this region,” Kern said.

The session is a follow-up to the Light Industrial Traffic Study completed for Warren County government in the fall of 2020. It also will provide input for the county’s transportation plan update now underway.

“Specific focus of the meeting will be on communicating with each other with respect to the impact of development on roadways,” Kern said.

“I see my role as County Commissioner as the facilitator to bring the region together in one setting,” Kern noted. “In the coming months we will have meetings with those municipalities in the central region and those in the north,” Kern said.

Local planning boards ceding their control to a regional entity may not work in all places, Kern said, “But again, it’s a discussion and a dialogue that these communities need to have.” Even though the county does not have authority, Kern said he thought it was important for the county to do the best it can to help facilitate these discussions.

While the invitation has been sent to the six municipal governments, anyone from the public wishing to attend can log in at the link: https://warrencountynj.webex.com/warrencountynj/j.php…

Telephone access is available at 877-309-3457 (Toll Free) or 404-397-1516. Meeting number (access code) is 129 229 8460 and meeting password if needed is YjfQMbmU572.
