Road Closure for temporary breach of Openaka Lake Dam

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Beginning on or about Monday, June 26, Openaki Road will be closed between Mountainside Drive and Casterline Road in Denville Township from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for approximately the next three months.

Morris County Engineering Department’s contractor, Salmon Bros. of Netcong, will begin a temporary breach of the dam and spillway for Lake Openaka, which is connected to the Openaki Road bridge.

The primary detour for all traffic in this area will via Mountainside Drive, Everdale Road, and Shongum Road. Detours signs, and other traffic control measures will be in place during this construction to divert traffic.

Motorists should anticipate delays or plan alternate routes.

The work is planned to be completed on or near October 1, 2023.
