Route 23 southbound lane shift starts for developer project in Sussex Borough

Traffic light to be installed at Wiebel Avenue intersection

SUSSEX BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – Route 23 southbound traffic will be shifted to the left from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. beginning Monday, April 3 between Brookside Avenue and Wiebel Plaza in Sussex Borough.

Work will continue daily Monday through Friday for approximately three months. Traffic will be maintained through the project area at all times.

The traffic shift is necessary for the installation of a new traffic signal at the Route 23 and Wiebel Plaza intersection. The project also will widen Route 23 southbound before the intersection to include a dedicated right turn lane into a new Shoprite that is being built. In addition, four driveways will be built, and concrete curbs, ADA-compliant ramps, and new signage will be installed.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution when driving through the work zone. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
