Scam alert: Chester Police asking for money is fake

CHESTER, NJ (Morris County) – The Chester Police Department is warning people of a scam where callers pretend to be law enforcement officers asking for money.

The department has received reports from residents who have received phone calls from an individual who “spoofed” the phone number of the Chester Police Department and then attempted to solicit money from them, police said.

“We have never, nor will we ever solicit funds from residents or anyone else in this manner,” police said.

Should you receive a phone call like this by an individual(s) claiming to be the Chester Police Department, police say it is a scam and do not give money or provide any of your personal information to the caller.

Anyone that has encountered this scam or any other kind of activity believed to be fraudulent, should contact the Chester Police Department at 908-879-5514.
