School bus carrying several kids crashes after driver suffers medical emergency in Morris County

FLORHAM PARK BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) –  A school bus carrying several children crashed in Florham Park Borough on Tuesday after the driver suffered a medical emergency, according to the Florham Park Police Department and Office of Emergency Management.

On December 7, at around 4:15 p.m., police received several 9-1-1 calls reporting an erratic school bus driving along Brooklake Road. The bus eventually came to a stop only after a slow moving, low impact crash with another motorist, officials said.

Officers who responded quickly determined the driver was suffering from a medical condition and was in need of emergency medical assistance. The driver was transported to a local hospital under the care of Atlantic Health EMS and paramedics, authorities said.

“The school bus was occupied with several students and, very fortunately, there were no injuries reported to any of the children or other motorists,” officials said.

The Board of Education responded immediately and safely transferred the children to another bus to complete their stops while notifying their guardians of the incident, authorities said.

“We appreciate all of those who called reporting the erratic behavior and those who reached out asking about the children,” officials said.

The crash remains under investigation.
