Senator Bucco: Parents deserve a say in their kid’s education
NEW JERSEY – Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-25) issued the following statement criticizing Governor Murphy and Trenton Democrats for interfering with parental rights in their children’s education after a new poll indicated the overwhelming majority of parents want to have more of an influence.
“It is clear from the FDU poll that parents want a say in their kid’s education. Republicans have said time and time again that children succeed best when parents and teachers are partners. Since Murphy has been in office, parental rights have been significantly minimized. To make things worse, the Attorney General and Trenton Democrats have supported this slow erosion of parental rights and have refused to stand against this overreach,” Bucco said.
“This poll reaffirms what Republicans have been advocating for all along and supports the reforms that we have sponsored to address the desire of parents to have a say in their children’s education. Trenton Democrats have provided nothing but lip service on these issues. Look no further than the fact that the Senate Education Committee has not held a meeting since March 2 of this year,” Bucco said.
“That’s 230 days without any direction from the Democrat controlled Senate. If they really cared, they would be back in Trenton addressing the concerns that New Jerseyans clearly care about, but instead they refuse to return and find sensible solutions. New Jerseyans want these issues addressed immediately and Republicans stand ready to provide solutions,” Bucco said.
A Fairleigh Dickson University Poll that released this morning showed that 76% of parents believe they should be able to choose or have some influence over what their children are learning in schools.
