ShopRite associates featured on special edition Cheerios boxes in recognition of their hunger fighting efforts

ShopRite ‘All Stars’ once again gave their all to fight hunger, raising over $1.3 million for food banks in their communities. Their efforts are celebrated with the top fundraisers appearing on special edition Cheerios boxes, available in stores now.

To earn a spot on the popular cereal box, associates compete each September (Hunger Action Month) in the annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest, a friendly competition sponsored by ShopRite and Cheerios maker General Mills. With this year’s contest theme, “Ending Hunger Together,” associates collected donations at checkout and in-store, encouraging customers to round their grocery purchases up to the nearest dollar.

“Year after year, our hard-working associates step up to raise much-needed funds for regional food banks and help in the fight against hunger through ShopRite’s Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest,” said Claire Rossie, manager of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, ShopRite.

“This year was exceptional. With over $1 million raised to help put food on the table for families in need, our ShopRite associates proved that they are true stars,” Rossie said.

ShopRite and General Mills recognize the 52 top fundraising ShopRite stores and unveil the special-edition Cheerios boxes during in-store celebrations March through May. Each winning store receives prize money to be donated to local food pantries: $3,000 for the top five stores and $500 for the remaining winning stores.

Many ShopRite family-owned supermarkets have been serving local communities for decades — and their dedicated associates are key to their success. The ShopRite of Brodheadsville, PA, owned and operated by the Kinsley family, is the top fundraising store for the third year in a row, raising nearly $43,000.
