Somerset County fugitive wanted on burglary, failure to register as a sex offender charges caught at Connecticut hotel

NORWALK, CT (Fairfield County) – A Somerset County fugitive wanted on several warrants was caught at a Connecticut hotel on Thursday, according to police.

On Oct. 5, Norwalk Police Department’s Detective Bureau were contacted by the Fugitive Task Force from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office to assist with locating Juan Marales, 41, of Edison, who was a wanted fugitive, police said.

Norwalk Detectives began investigating the whereabouts of Marales who was wanted for second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree failure to register as a sex offender, second-degree endangering– abuse/neglect of a child, and third-degree aggravated assault on a Correctional/Sheriff’s Officer which occurred between January to October, 2022.

Norwalk detectives were able to track Marales to the Red Carpel Inn, located at 469 Westport Avenue, where he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Marales was charged with fugitive from justice and was being held in lieu of a $1 million bond. His court date is scheduled for Oct. 19, police said.
