Somerset County man charged with child pornography
FAR HILLS BOROUGH, NJ (Somerset County) – A Somerset County man was charged in relation to possessing and distributing child pornography, according to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.
According to Taggart, as part of the New Jersey Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit were notified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) of an apparent upload of images of sexual exploitation or abuse of a child.
An investigation revealed that Jason O’Hare, 33, of Far Hills Borough was suspected of uploading numerous sexually explicit images of children under the age of 18, Taggart said.
Then on May 25, at around 7:00 a.m., Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office detectives, along with members of the Far Hills Police Department, executed a Superior Court ordered search warrant at O’Hare’s residence, Taggart said.
As a result of the search, O’Hare’s electronic devices were seized for further computer forensic examination. An initial forensic examination of these devices revealed numerous images depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of a child, Taggart said.
O’Hare was arrested without incident at his residence and was charged with second-degree distribution of child pornography and third-degree possession of child pornography. He was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing and subsequently released, Taggart said.
