Speeding driver charged with DWI, open containers in Byram Township

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Police charged an Essex County man with drunken driving after they spotted him speeding on Route 206 in Byram Township, police said.

On August 27, an officer stopped a vehicle on Route 206 for speeding and while speaking to the driver, who was identified as Daryll R. Brown of East Orange, the officer observed several open alcoholic beverage containers in the vehicle, and the officer felt he may be intoxicated, police said.

Brown was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed and was then arrested. He was transported to the police station where he failed two breath tests, police said.

Brown was charged with driving while intoxicated, open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, driving while suspended, reckless driving, and speeding. He was released to a friend pending a mandatory court appearance.
