
Suspect in Boonton bank robbery arrested
BOONTON, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris county has been charged in connection with a bank robbery last month in Boonton, according to Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp.
Andrew T. Merceruio, 37, of Boonton was charged with second-degree robbery, and third-degree theft by unlawful taking.
The robbery happened at around 12:45 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 302 Wootton Street, in Boonton, Knapp said.
A subsequent police investigation revealed that Merceruio allegedly entered the bank branch and demanded money. He then fled the bank on foot with approximately $2,000, Knapp said.
The Boonton Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Intelligence Unit and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit assisted with the investigation.
