Sussex County e-bike rider faces DWI charge

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County e-bike rider faces several charges including driving while intoxicated after he was stopped Thursday in Byram Township, according to police.

On August 25, an officer observed an e-bike being driven on Route 206 North and was delaying traffic and swerving within the lane it was traveling in, police said.

A motor vehicle stop was initiated, and after speaking to the driver, Michael T. Raymond of Byram Township, he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was then transported to the police station where he refused to submit to breath tests, police said.

Raymond was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath tests, careless driving, reckless driving, driving slow as to impede traffic and delaying traffic. He was released to a friend pending a court appearance, police said.
