Sussex County man charged with assaulting woman

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) –  A Sussex County man was jailed after he allegedly assaulted a woman at the Econo Lodge in Andover Township Sunday morning.

Gregory S. Whitehead, 47, of Montague Township was charged with third-degree aggravated assault.

On April 19, at 12:46 a.m., township police responded to the Econo Lodge, located on Rout 206, for a report of a woman being assaulted, police said.

When officers arrived, it was determined that Whitehead had been intoxicated and became angry over the taking of a cell phone battery. He then began to strike the woman several times in the face causing injuries, police said.

The Lakeland Emergency Squad transported the woman to Newton Medical Center, police said.

Whitehead was arrested and charged. He was brought to the Morris County Jail by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department.
