Sussex County man charged with criminal mischief

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was charged with criminal mischief after he allegedly started a mulch bed on fire in Byram Township, police said.

Byram police responded on Aug. 29 at around 3:34 p.m. to a report of a man allegedly lighting items on fire in the parking lot of a business, police said.

Upon arrival, officer made contact with the man, who was identified as Shayne Divito of Wantage, NJ and determined that he had been lighting paper on fire and dropping it into a mulch bed in the parking lot. This caused the mulch bed to catch fire, which was extinguished by employees on scene, police said.

Divito was taken into custody and searched, at this time a hypodermic syringe was allegedly found in his possession, police said.

Divito was charged with criminal mischief and possession of a hypodermic syringe.
