Sussex County man charged with DWI after Hackettstown crash

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Sussex County man is facing charges including driving while intoxicated following a crash Sunday night in Hackettstown.

C. Scott Caruso, 56, of Sparta Township was charged with driving while intoxicated, and careless driving.

The crash happened on March, 1 at around 8:21 p.m. at the intersection of Route 46 and Center Street, police said.

Through a police investigation it was determined that Caruso was driving a 2015 Toyota and was stopped at the stop sign on Center St. When Caruso made a left-hand turn onto Route 46, he struck a 2019 Audi driven by Jason Apwah, 30, of Mount Olive Township, which was travelling east on Route 46, police said.

There were no reported injuries, police said.

While the officer was talking to Caruso, the officer allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said.

Caruso was released pending a court appearance.
