Sussex County man dies in motorcycle, pickup truck crash on New York roadway

DEERPARK, NY (Orange County) – New York State Police say a motorcycle and truck collided in Deerpark Saturday evening claiming the life of a Sussex County man.

The crash happened on Aug. 19, at around 6:55 p.m., at the intersection of State Route 209 and Third Street, state police said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that the driver of a 2013 Toyota-Tundra was making a left turn on State Route 209 traveling north, state police said.

As the pickup truck was turning, a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by David J. Castner, 54, from the Highland Lakes section of Vernon Township, was traveling south on State Route 209 and was making a left turn in front of the pickup truck, state police said.

Castner was then ejected and his motorcycle ended up underneath the Tundra. state police said.

Castner received medical attention from Cuddeback Fire Department Medics, Port Jervis Ambulance EMS, and Port Jervis Police Officers. He was then transported to Garnet Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, state police said.

This crash remains under investigation.
