Sussex County man pleads guilty to stealing instruments, various other electronics

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man has pleaded guilty to stealing instruments, various other electronics and then attempting to sell the stolen items, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Steven Araujo, 39, of Branchville pled guilty on August 10 to third-degree theft and third-degree conspiracy to commit fencing before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on August 10, Taggart siad.

In pleading guilty, Araujo admitted to taking movable property, including instruments and various other electronics, belonging to Oriolo Guitars and Felix the Cat Productions that had value in excess of $500.00 but less than $75,000.00, and then attempting to sell the stolen goods for profit, Taggart said.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 22 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C.

The case was investigated by Det. J. Sokolowski of the Hamburg Police Department and Det. D. Voris of the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office. Araujo was represented by Jeffrey M. Patti, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
