Sussex County man sentenced to state prison on theft, drug, other charges

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man has been sentenced to state prison on theft, drug, other charges, Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart announced Monday.

Richard J. Dobrowolski, age 44, of Vernon Township was sentenced on July 28 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.

Dobrowolski was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison for burglary and theft, stemming from an incident on Nov. 23, 2022 in Vernon Township, Taggart said.

Dobrowolski was also sentenced to three years New Jersey State Prison for possession of CDS and tampering with evidence, stemming from an incident on March 17, 2021 in Vernon Township and three years New Jersey State Prison for theft, stemming from incidents occurring between Aug. 15, 2022 to Sept. 15, 2022 in
Franklin Borough, Taggart said.

Dobrowolski was also sentenced to three years New Jersey State Prison for failure to register stemming from an incident occurring on April 29, 2021 and eighteen months New Jersey State Prison for violation of parole stemming from incidents occurring between March 18, 2022 to March 24, 2022 and Nov. 3, 2022 to
Dec. 6, 2022, Taggart said.

In addition, he was ordered to pay fines and fees and was given 247 days jail credit and ordered to pay $9,200.00 restitution to the victims. All sentences were ordered to run concurrently, Taggart siad.

He entered guilty pleas to the charges on June 1, 2023.

Dobrowolski was represented by Thomas Militano, Esq. and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Laura Nazzaro.
