Sussex County Miners select pitcher, catcher in Frontier League Draft

AUGUSTA, NJ (Sussex County) – Sussex County Miners manager Chris Widger selected a pair of players in the 2023 Frontier League Tryout Camp and Draft on Tuesday at Grizzlies Ballpark in Sauget, IL, picking right-handed pitcher Noah Robinson with the 11th pick overall before taking a local product, catcher Nick Grifone with the 26th pick (Round 2, Pick 10) to finish his selections.

Robinson played two years at Rowan College-Cumberland, where he appeared out of the bullpen 10 times, posting a 4.38 ERA. The 6-foot-4, 250 pound native of Vineland, NJ also pitched 8 games in the collegiate Appalachian League.

Grifone is familiar with Skylands Stadium, having played 2 seasons with Sussex County Community College. As a Skylander, Grifone hit .235 with a .369 on base percentage and one home run. Nick then moved on to Centenary University, where he hit .291 with 2 HRs and 30 RBIs in 50 games with the Cyclones. The Sussex, NJ native was also a captain on the Vernon, High School baseball team, and also is an assistant coach with the Skylanders baseball team.

The 2023 Miners season begins on Friday, May 12 with a three-game series at the Joliet Slammers. The Miners will then return to Skylands Stadium for their home opener against the Tri-City ValleyCats on Tuesday, May 16 at 7:05 p.m.
