Sussex County motorcyclist seriously injured in crash with SUV on I-80

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Essex County) – A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries Friday night in a collision with an SUV on Interstate 80 in Essex County, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash happened at around 9:55 p.m. on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 50.2 in Fairfield Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Honda SUV and Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by a 36-year-old Hopatcong Borough man, were traveling westbound when the Harley Davidson impacted the rear of the Honda, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject the driver, Lebron said.

As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available, Lebron said.
