Sussex County Offices of Public Health Nursing and Environmental Health participate in a mass care exercise

AUGUSTA, NJ (Sussex County) – The Sussex County Offices of Public Health Nursing and Environmental Health participated in a Mass Care Exercise held by the NJ Department of Human Services in coordination with NJ Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Sussex County OEM at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 1.

The exercise was designed to test the set-up of a co-located emergent disaster shelter. It exercised the functions of Staffing, Dormitory Set-up, Support for People with Disabilities and Access and Function Needs (DAFN) and Companion Animal Sheltering components of the shelter plan and identified potential gaps to be addressed in the plan update.

The event provided a great opportunity to network with mass care teams throughout the state and region and gain a better understanding of the key components of a mass care operation.

The Office of Public Health Nursing manages the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program, which is dedicated to ensuring a coordinated, timely, and effective response to a bioterrorist event, natural disaster, or other public health emergency in Sussex County.
