
Sussex County woman sentenced to probation for aggravated assault, obstructing administration of law, violation of probation
NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County woman was sentenced to probation for aggravated assault, obstructing administration of law, and violation of probation, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.
Gabriella Colon, 21, of Vernon Township was sentenced on August 11 before the Honorable Judge Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.
Colon was sentenced to two years probation with a credit for six days jail already served, concurrent to her existing probation which was extended one year. She was also ordered to submit to a Substance Abuse Evaluation and follow all recommendations thereof, pay fines and fees of $310.00, and to perform 60 hours of community service.
Colon pled guilty on March 22 to fourth-degree aggravated assault and a violation of her existing probation for resisting arrest. She admitted to purposely attempting to cause bodily injury to a Vernon Township police officer on November 5, 2021, Taggart said.
Colon also pled guilty on June 23 to fourth-degree obstructing the administration of law and an additional violation of her existing probation. She admitted to taking and throwing a body worn camera which held video evidence of a criminal investigation into the woods on April 18 in Vernon Township, Taggart said.
Colon was represented by Thomas F. Militano, Esq. and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Assistant Prosecutor Sally Anne Monkemeier
