Three Centenary University students honored at the New Jersey Distinguished Clinical and Cooperating Teachers awards ceremony

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) — Three Centenary University students were recognized for excellence at the New Jersey Distinguished Clinical and Cooperating Teachers Awards Ceremony, which was held virtually on June 8. The awards are co-sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

The annual event lauds the top 60 clinical interns—three each from New Jersey’s educator preparation programs. Centenary University students honored this year are:

  • Lauren Fernicola of Bridgewater, the recipient of a Bachelor of Arts in Education: Liberal Arts with instructional certifications in preschool through grade 3 and teacher of students with disabilities, who interned at the Benedict A. Cucinella School in Washington Township, NJ
  • Katherine Murawski of Milford, the recipient of a Bachelor of Arts in Education: Liberal Arts with instructional certifications in kindergarten through grade 6 and teacher of students with disabilities, who interned at Memorial School in Washington Borough, NJ
  • Megan Rafferty of Byram Township, the recipient of a Bachelor of Arts in Education: Liberal Arts with instructional certifications in kindergarten through grade 6 and teacher of students with disabilities, who interned at Sandshore Elementary School in Mount Olive, NJ

Centenary University offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in education at its campuses in Hackettstown, as well as at 75 professional development sites in northern New Jersey. More than 100 principals, superintendents, directors, or supervisors—including most of the principals in Warren County—have, or are currently earning, a Centenary University degree, providing outstanding networking opportunities for the University’s graduates.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
