Traffic stop leads to arrest, charges for alleged possession of stolen vehicle, loaded handgun in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A traffic stop led the the arrest of a Sussex County man for possession of a stolen vehicle, loaded handgun, and other related offenses in Franklin Borough, police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Jose M. Colon, 19, of Hamburg was arrested and charged on May 30 with second-degree eluding in a motor vehicle, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, and several other indictable offenses related to motor vehicle theft and obstruction by flight, police said.

Colon was also being sought by Hamburg and Hardyston Police Departments for theft and vehicle theft offenses related to a second vehicle stolen within an eight-hour period that had occurred after the Franklin Borough incident, police said.

Colon was lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending his appearance in Sussex County Superior Court in accordance with the NJ Bail Reform Act.
