Traffic stop leads to drug charges for Phillipsburg man

LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Phillipsburg man is facing charges after drugs were allegedly found in his vehicle during a traffic stop in Lopatcong Township.

On August 27, at around 1:35 a.m., a township officer observed a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed and then stopped the vehicle on Route 22 east near the Phillipsburg Mall, police said.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver was identified as David J. Eck Jr. During the investigation, he was found to be in possession of 40 Xanax pills without a prescription, a marijuana pipe and a metal grinder containing marijuana residue, police said.

Eck was charged with possession of prescription legend drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued a traffic summons for careless Driving.

Eck was released pending a court appearance.
