Traveler from China quarantined after arriving at Newark airport

NEWARK, NJ (Essex County) – A asymptomatic individual who traveled from China to Newark Liberty International Airport Tuesday evening was issued a mandatory quarantine order, New Jersey Department of Health officials said.

While the individual did not present any symptoms, they were in Hubei Province on Feb. 4 and therefore were issued a 14-day quarantine order, health officials said.

The individual, who is not a New Jersey resident, was transported to a location in Essex County, and the New Jersey Department of Health will monitor the individual for symptoms for the next 14 days, health officials said.

The risk of novel coronavirus transmission in New Jersey residents remains low, health officials said.

There are no confirmed coronavirus cases in New Jersey.
