Treasurer accused of stealing $29K from Somerset County baseball club

GREEN BROOK TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A Somerset County man was arrested in relation to acts of theft by deception of Green Brook Baseball Club funds occurring from July of 2018 to May of 2022 in Greenbrook Township, according to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald.

John M. Brault, 42, of Green Brook Township was charged with third-degree theft by deception, McDonald said.

In May of 2022, the Special Investigations Unit of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office was notified of a report of suspected theft by deception on the part of the treasurer, who was identified as Brault, of the Green Brook Baseball Club organization in Green Brook Township, McDonald said.

As a result of this investigation, it was determined that for nearly a four-year period, and while acting as treasurer, John Brault had been misusing approximately $29,000 in funds belonging to the Green Brook Baseball Club funds for his personal use, McDonald said.

Brault was arrested and charged on Thursday, Feb. 2 and released pending a court appearance, McDonald said.
