Trooper honored as New Jersey Police Officer of the Year

Detective I Susan Mistretta was awarded last week the Abigail Powlett Police Officer of the Year Award by the New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement, Inc during their annual training conference and awards ceremony.

Det. Mistretta was honored for professionalism and compassion during the May 17, 2018 fatal bus crash on Interstate 80 in Mount Olive Township. As one of the first to arrive on scene, Det. Mistretta delivered first aid to numerous victims and aided in accounting for the children on the bus.

Officer Powlett, of the Plainfield Police Department, was the first female law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in New Jersey on March 15, 1985.

The award is given to a law enforcement officer who has demonstrated exceptional achievement in carrying out their duties.
